Lourdes V. Norton is an experienced language professional, born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, who has lived in Philadelphia, New York, São Paulo, and now Miami, Florida, for the last 2 years.
Lourdes joined the ATA in 1988 and was the second administrator of the ATA’s Portuguese Language Division. She was a board member of the Delaware Valley Translator’s Association for 8 years. She is currently an active member of the ATA, DVTA, ATIF and AOTP. While in Brazil she was a member of both Brazilian professional organizations SINTRA and ABRATES having been a grader of ABRATES certification exam English<>Portuguese for two years .
Lourdes holds a degree in Law from the Pontifical Catholic University (PUC) in Rio de Janeiro and is a member of the São Paulo Bar Association. In addition, she has an MS in Educational Administration and Supervision from Pace University, NY. She taught Brazilian Cultural Perspectives and Language at the prestigious Lauder Institute of the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. Returning to Brazil in 2000 she taught Court Interpreting and Simultaneous Interpreting at PUC SP and has offered and attended many workshops in Translation and Interpreting, as well as second language teaching.
